—Ven, Susan, ayúdame a peinarme.
—Nunca.
—No regresó, Susan.

The Secret of Her Hair
Hello, friends who love literature!💁☀️
Happy Sunday to everyone!
Today I want to share a short story with you. I hope you enjoy it!
The Secret of Her Hair
Ever since I was a little girl, my aunt’s hair had always caught my attention. It was long, very long, and I loved combing it while the rays of sunlight seemed to linger in its shine.
—Come, Susan, help me comb my hair.
She would say as she sat by the window.
I would take the comb and carefully begin to untangle it. As I ran it through those long strands, my curiosity got the better of me.
—Auntie... have you really never cut it?
She smiled.
—Never.
—And why did you let it grow so long?
My aunt took a strand between her fingers and remained silent for a few seconds, as if searching the past for the answer.
—It all began with Noel. I met him at university. He was fascinated by my long black hair. He said that, as it fell down my back, it looked like a cloak of night. Sometimes, while we talked, he would take one of my strands between his fingers and absentmindedly caress it.
My cheeks flushed at the love story. I listened with a smile, imagining those days when my aunt and Noel were just beginning to know each other.
—When he had to leave, he made me promise that I would only cut my hair when he returned.
I looked at her in surprise.
—And when he returned, what did he tell you?
My aunt slowly lowered her gaze.
—He never came back, Susan.
For a moment, we remained silent. She slowly caressed one of her long strands, now streaked with silver. Then she raised her eyes to me and said:
—I never broke my promise.
