Freedom of speech is a fundamental human rights, and all should be able to share a piece of their mind. Citizens should be allowed to criticize their leaders, followers should be allowed to criticize their leaders, humans should be allowed to ask questions and voice out their own opinions, all of this should be possible without us being afraid of the government, of our leaders or of the security operatives who are fast in picking up those who criticize the leaders/government but allow and leave terrorists to go scot free.
Even with that, there's a small clause, at least to me. I feel freedom need to be guided too else we would say things out of it too, we all know how powerful words can be, we all know that words already spoken can not be unsaid, and it's now left for whoever is been sakd to, to deal with it, and most times left to the individual who said it to, to either regret saying it or feel okay with it. And that is where hsre speech comes in, the world "hate" in itself should tell us something. And like I'm saying, words can be very powerful, in as much as they wouldn't leave a physical mark on someone, they most times leave a deep one on the heart.
You can't expect someone who's always told how worthless and useless they're to always feel good and smile at you for always telling them that. Those kind and type of words is enough for that person to distance themselves from you, it's enough for them to be depressed, it's enough for them to start overthink, it's enough for them to start feeling inferior and unwanted. And even though we may only be saying it so they could get things right or that we don't really mean it, it doesn't mean it wouldn't do a different kind of work in their own mind.
But then, let's come back to the government. Those in government, the leaders and all should know they are there for a reason and you can't keep doing things that make life hard for citizens and expect them to continue to like you and not speak up someday. So, if a citizen or some citizens do that, most times out of frustration when a law has been made against hate speech, and they get picked up, treated as criminals and locked up, with time it will continue like that even with those who just have a different opinion. I mean we know this government people a lot, they know how to twist laws, they will still make use of that same law to pick up and lock up those who have a different opinion about a thing or policies, they would pick up those they feel are criticizing them and punish those who have a contrary or an unpopular opinion.
Now, I feel the line should be drawn between knowing when an hateful speech is harmful or can encourage one and when such speech is just being offensive. So far that speech isn't calling for violence, then it's all good. So far it is not in any way encouraging bad behaviors and the likes, then allow it. A person can be against a particular decision or policy and voice out their opinion, and another night because he/she doesn't agree with it too call out people to attack, mobilize and cause real harm. That I can say is justiceable.
We can't just make every hate speech a crime, that is us creating a world or a country where people are living in fear and wouldn't be able to speak up, criticize and voice out their own opinions. And to be honest most of those criticisms and all works a lot at times, it helps the government adjust too, it helps them do better, it help to put them in check knowing fully well that someone/some people are some where who would talk. So, allow for freedom of speech, but we shouldn't as well see it as a way to or a license to go overboard and deliberately encourage harm, violence, chaos, or cause bloodshed and all, all in the name of freedom of speech.
And about laws, we need laws that are direct on things like this, not the type that those in power can manipulate at anytime or twist to carry out their own agendas and use in punishing anyone they want to, just for merely voicing out an opinion which doesn't in any way instigate violence.
