I have lived in England for more than six years and today I am going to tell you what I like most about the English people.

I - The politeness

It is very rare to find a rude English person. They don't push you to get on the tube, they accept long queues without complaining and they try their best to not invade your space.

The most common phrase you'll hear is “I'm sorry” even when it is not necessary. If they almost bump into you but nothing happens, they will apologise. Even when you accidentally bump into them, they apologize.

Another frequently used word is “Please”. They don’t give orders, they ask and they never forget to say “Thank you”.

II - The most discreet

English don’t talk or make fun of people. They will never say “Look how weird is that guy over there?” or “That fat Japanese girl looks like a sumo fighter.”

Also, they don’t describe people by physical or racial characteristics. “Do you know that bald man?” or “Is that Korean your friend?”

They prioritize qualities and minimize weakness. “Do you know that distinguished gentleman who is sometimes a little grumpy?"

III - The most fashionable

As English people don’t judge others, they take the opportunity to express themselves with freedom when we talk about clothes. In London, nobody cares if you wear you pyjamas to go for a walk. It is important who you are, not what are you wearing.

Another good lesson I have learned is to use layers. The Brits know how to do this in any season.

IV - Tea is the official drink

Drinking tea is a custom in England. The tea can be served anytime and anywhere, even in the pubs. The national preference is black tea with milk but they also drink lemon and ginger, camomile and green tea.

V - The most encouraging

In England it is important to develop your artistic talent. It's not unusual for English people to have a job that doesn't require much thinking and 'save' their brain for creative ideas. In some pubs, Monday’s night are dedicated to new talents.

In addition, there are a lot of exhibitions around London for unknown artists to promote their artwork.

Hope this post has inspired you to be more English. It is worth it. :-)

See you next time.
