I just finished a 7.413km running that lasted about 0hh:32mm:53ss !
Still plenty of snow and ice, but not enough for my shoes with spikes. So I went back to my regular winter shoes with Michelin outsoles. I never got a chance to test them in real conditions before, so I thought it was just a gimmick but they handled the terrain very well. Another comment on the outfit: waterproof breathable shell jacket, it's all relative. I wasn't cold at all even with the wind and the temperature in the low 20s. But I finished completely drenched, with just a shirt under it.
With my last 2 night runs, I chose not to run with my earbuds to be more aware of my surroundings, in case a driver doesn't see me in spite of my visibility jacket and headlamp. I miss the music a little bit, but in my area, people aren't so used to seeing pedestrians or runners in this cold, so you never know.
As for the run itself, what a struggle it was again! I must be more tired than I feel.
It was nothing spectacular, just about 4.5 miles but a decent pace at 7:08 min/mile. Maybe I was more tense because of the icy patches, or again just tired, but my calves became painful very quickly. I had to slow down a bit, just to avoid cramping up. Quads suffered too, which is unusual for me.
Cadence at 174spm wasn't great, but I had worse.
I'm supposed to be off work this week, so let's see if I can add more miles to finish the year strong!
Keep Exhausting!
