I still remember when, after leaving university, I decided that I wouldn't study for another seven years, because being in a degree program from the age of four to 21 was exhausting, and a break to focus on other things was really necessary.
The good thing is that even though I didn't know anything about making intentional decisions at the time, this became a reality because, after exactly seven years, I went to Trinidad and Tobago to study English. The following year, I started my MBA, but this time I took things more calmly and focused on the subjects I wanted to study at my own pace.
Even though motherhood limited me a little, I managed to take some courses and diploma programs, although I had to give up a scholarship for a doctorate, which I regret, but now I think I still have time to do it.
But my current reality is different: grueling work schedules, being a single mother, inflation breathing down my neck, and all the bills that must be paid on time and in full seem to leave no room for much else. Except that this year, my purpose has been different.
I started doing things for myself, and since studying has always been one of my great passions, I have been signing up for short courses and online training programs that have been not only interesting but also quite concrete and satisfying, reawakening the student within me that had been dormant.
So far this year, I have completed five courses, the last one with a certificate of attendance, which allows me to update my resume and keep up to date with new technologies related to my career. I have just started one on digital marketing, and I am looking forward to starting one on voice-over, for which I have high expectations.
