En una de las mentorías de Ismael Cala que he seguido en línea, nos habla sobre trabajar en las metas estipuladas para lograr un objetivo, y aconseja afianzar esas pequeñas victorias con un regalo de algo que nos guste, como si de amaestrar a un animal se tratara.
Parece algo absurdo, pero realmente funciona y de hecho, eso fue lo que hice en esta oportunidad, luego de una visita a un lugar en donde deseo hacer vida profesional, obteniendo una respuesta esperanzadora.
Desde que empezó el año, mi objetivo es darle una vuelta de timón a mi vida, y recursar todo hacia un rumbo diferente, más cercano a la persona que dejé atrás al momento de emigrar, y la verdad es que aunque han sido cambios pequeños, ya considero que estoy en la senda correcta.
Sin embargo, entre la costumbre y los miedos, hay muchas cosas que me cuestan, por más sencillas que parezcan, así que cada pequeña batalla ganada a estos factores, la tomo como un mensaje positivo y una motivación extra.
Por esto mismo, he optado por premiarme cuando consigo un logro sustancial en mis avances, y justo ese día logré ir a este lugar, hablar sobre mi nuevo proyecto profesional y tener un acercamiento a la realidad que aspiro empezar a vivir prontamente.
Una vez concluida la diligencia, pasé por una de las sucursales de la M amarilla, y para mi sorpresa, ahora ofrecen cafés más elaborados, por lo que dije "este va a ser mi premio por el día de hoy".
Fui a la máquina para ordenar directamente, pagué y esperé que me despacharan el café, sin pensar en cuánto había invertido, sino más bien en lo bien que me hacía salir de casa, tomarme un café en un sitio público y disfrutar de este logro que es el ápice de todo lo que está por venir.
Había pensado en comprar para llevar, pero luego preferí quedarme un rato en el local, tomé las fotos antes de quedarme sin batería, descubriendo en ese preciso instante que tampoco tenia el cargador, por lo que no había excusas para no estar conmigo sin distracciones.
Ya pronto divulgaré lo que estoy trabajando, pero puedo adelantarles que este café representa el cierre de una etapa y a la vez, el inicio de algo mucho mejor.
Así que los invito a darse estos premios, pues enriquecen el alma y fortalecen también el autoestima. Háganlo de vez en cuando, y luego me cuentan.
In one of Ismael Cala’s mentoring sessions that I’ve followed online, he talks about working towards the milestones set to achieve a goal, and advises us to reward those small victories with a treat we enjoy, as if we were training an animal.
It sounds a bit absurd, but it really does work – and in fact, that’s exactly what I did on this occasion, following a visit to a place where I hope to build my career, after receiving an encouraging response.
Since the start of the year, my aim has been to change the course of my life and steer everything in a different direction, one that’s closer to the person I left behind when I emigrated, and the truth is that, although the changes have been small, I already feel I’m on the right track.
However, between old habits and fears, there are many things I find difficult, however simple they may seem, so every small victory over these obstacles I see as a positive sign and an extra source of motivation.
For this very reason, I’ve decided to reward myself whenever I make a significant step forward, and on that very day I managed to visit this place, discuss my new professional project and get a taste of the life I hope to start living soon.
Once I’d finished my errand, I popped into one of the yellow M branches, and to my surprise, they now offer more elaborate coffees, so I said to myself, ‘This is going to be my reward for today’.
I went to the machine to order straight away, paid and waited for my coffee to be served, not thinking about how much I’d spent, but rather about how good it felt to get out of the house, have a coffee in a public place and savour this achievement, which is the culmination of everything that lies ahead.
I’d thought about getting a takeaway, but then I decided to stay in the café for a while; I took the photos before my battery ran out, realising at that very moment that I didn’t have my charger either, so there were no excuses for not being fully present without distractions.
I’ll be sharing what I’m working on soon, but I can tell you that this coffee marks the end of one chapter and, at the same time, the start of something much better.
So I invite you to treat yourselves to these little rewards, as they enrich the soul and boost your self-esteem too. Do it every now and then, and let me know how it goes.
