Some Information about George Lorimer

George Horace Lorimer was born in Louisville, Kentucky, US on 1867-Octber-6. He died in Wyncote, Pennsylvania, US on 1937-October-22.

George Lorimer is best known for his association with The Saturday Evening Post. There he was literary editor, then editor-in-chief, then presidnt of the Curtis Publishing Company.

Years earlier he worked in Chicago for Philip D. Armour's meatpacking company from 1887 to 1895. For a short time he owned his own wholesale grocery business. Lorimer went to Boston, Massachusetts, US to work as a newspaper reporter.

In 1897 Cyrus H. K. Curtis bought The Saturday Evening Post. At first Curtis hired Lorimer to be the literary editor of the magazine. Eventually Lorimer was named editor-in-chief. Lorimer had been editor-in-chief from 1899-May-17 through 1937-January-1, and it was during his tenure as editor-in-chief that The Saturday Evening Post achieved its greatest success.
