When I went home in the province for my mother's wake and funeral in October 2020, I stayed and worked from home since then. I did not go back to Metro Manila though I kept the place that I am renting. Aside from my corporate job, I got interested with plants not only for my hobby but for business too. I started hauling plants that gave me different encounters, some of which I kept as life lesson and values.
In the first week of October 2021, I ordered 45 pots of different succulent varieties from an online seller through FB marketplace. The price differs for every variety and the total amount was 99 pesos in excess of the hundreds. I rounded the amount to the hundreds and never thought about the one peso change.
When I was about to hand the bills to the seller, her hand was already stretched out to me. She prepared the one-peso change and was giving it to me in exchange of my bills. Take note: she delivered the plants to our place for free!
In a flash, I thought of not accepting the coin but then I suddenly thought otherwise. I have to let her keep her pride and fairness so I took the coin. This is the kind of person that you would want to deal business with! Fair and square...
On some instances when the seller tend to disregard the change of my payment, I just keep quiet but feel bad about it. I feel I was scammed because even small amount matters in business. If you cheat on a small amount, you have the tendency to do the same with larger ones. I had a totally different and amazing experience with this seller. I was so pleased with the seller's gesture and the plants were of good quality so I ordered 280 more pots. Unfortunately they ran out of other varieties. I was still blessed to have 130 pots on my next order. I am sure I will haul more plants from the same seller as long as the quality remains or improves.
So what is the value of one peso? It is fairness, honesty, pride, trust and continous business!
