Future is going to suck, because a) robots will take our jobs, b) AI will eliminate obsolete humans, c) climate will get us, unless terrorists do it first, d) immigrants will take our jobs... oh wait, what about robots? Let me think... robots will take our jobs from immigrants who took them first, and then climate change will make robots rust to dust and AI will turn the lights off and go to conquer galaxies. Humans will be no more.
As the prophet says, always look on the bright side. And look from human perspective, with our unique problem solving creativity. Sure, AI is already much better in chess, go, face recognition and other games. Sure, jobs are disappearing soon. Sure, we are becoming obsolete... but please, don't think of yourself as obsolete, because a robot is faster, cheaper and never complains about flipping those burgers, driving that cab, or doing whatever modern societies prefer to leave to immigrants anyway.
Problem with disappearing jobs is not what we are told to think. Instead of looking at it as blessing, we are told it's major disaster. It's a lie. The problem is that we still have to work in order to survive, because we never had a chance of solving scarcity problem. We can, it is now well with our range of problem solving. If we have water-food-shelter-electricity-internet, for free, because we can achieve that, then the problem disappears. It only takes changing perspective and recognizing what is what - it's not about you losing your job, it's about inherent wrongness of you needing that job in the first place.
But if we don't have to work.. what will we be doing? Imagine a horse thinking "what would I do all day if I didn't have to pull that cart?" - whatever the hell he wants. Some time ago there wasn't enough... oh, wait. There was a time when we enjoyed something similar - very long time ago in the garden of Eden. Then the omnipotent and all-loving God gave us agricultural revolution, and from happy hunter-gatherers we become, well, workers. We got kicked out of paradise - it does not take much imagination to say "literally". As the New American Standard Bible says, illustrating the point:
Cursed is the ground because of you;
In toil you will eat of it
All the days of your life.
Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you;
And you will eat the plants of the field;
By the sweat of your face
You will eat bread (...)
It's not my preferred mythology, but it proves my point.
So, isn't it a worthy goal, to dream of returning to paradise? Where we don't need to worry about mundane stuff - as we can make it being delivered to us free of charge - which would make us, again, free. It may sound like a crazy idea, but from where I stand our current arrangements are pure insanity of economics, politics, military idiocracy and capitalist exploitation. The vision of Eden is of course in total opposition to visions of so called "leaders", who would lose their power over us, if we became.. emancipated. Self- sufficient and well-armed. We can get there - at least we know we can. How to get there is merely a technical problem.
And by the way, in Eden there would be no migrants - plenty of tourists maybe, but if everyone had water, food, shelter, etc - there would be no reason to migrate. No jobs to take, no riches to grab, no social security benefits to steal, etc. No reason to fight. And plenty of time to solve the important things, like climate change.
Best of both worlds is freedom of prehistoric hunter-gatherer (freedom to roam, freedom from having too much) and mundane stuff taken care of by robots (water, food, shelter, electricity, internet, etc).
