The other day I was visiting this historical and one of the oldest cities in East Java. The city was de facto established back in 1923 but it also used to be the area of an ancient kingdom called Majapahit. The uniqueness of the city lays on the surrounding areas where bricks are used to build temples, houses , and even a gate to once a majestic kingdom. While the ancient kingdom no longer exist but their central park attempts to reflect the long gone kingdom.
As you see, the walls surrounding it the area is made with bricks but adorned with intricate ornaments that somehow transform the looks of what could be a very plain bricks.
I did a tour a few years ago but never got to this part of area. Only the other day, I managed to also find a historical pillar at the train station. As you can see, it is written Anno 1905, so that is even older than the founding of the city itself.
Straight from the train station, my friend and I visited the central park. It鈥檚 quite small but also has this miniature of temple that exist in another region of this city. The temple is called Candi Tikus and while the other actual one is built from stone, this one was made of bricks.
The point of attraction is definitely the monument that stood tall in the area. I find it really interesting because it sort of resembles some type of weapon but also screws. Who knows?
Much like other central park in east java and many parts of java, indonesia, there are mosque nearby. This mosque has unique dome and pretty colorful. Usually, mosques around central park are also big, this one was too.
In the park, they also provide benches like this to sit on. But it was really hot, so sitting on one of these aren鈥檛 ideal. Inside the park they have some areas with trees that are better to hide from the scorching sun.
This is the way to the areas with better shade. It was really that hot, so I didn't really explore the center much. I think it's nice that I see a lot of cities now are revamping their central park. In the past, a lot of central parks are barren and mostly unappealing but these days, like you see in some of these picture, it is a lot better.
There are also quite a bit of pigeon around. It's like they are the template of Indonesian's central park animal. Somehow, wherever you go, you can find them flying around and even low. They are also looking for food from visitors and aren't too shy about it.
Oh, last but not least, I am finally reuniting with my camera again. So, I'd be taking more pictures again 馃槉especially after moving, I am looking to explore more places in East Java & around.
