I am back from the holiday... with missing charger and some good news.
Once I reached my office, I realized that my phone charger was missing. I left it at the hotel and now, I need to survive without a proper charger. It's not the end of the world considering how things have been. But one thing that really takes up my mind right now is that the need to grow as a better mentor for my students.
When I was visiting Yogyakarta, not only I was meeting my students but I had the opportunity to actually market my courses. As a results, I got several leads and some new students. For some people, teaching isn't their passion and just the easiest way to earn money. I won't refute that because it's one of the easiest way to make money and so far, I made quite a bit from it which have helped me make a decent living wage outside of all the jobs I did. In my current course, for a lot of people, it might seem I am really undercharging and I mentioned a lot of my reasoning for that. However, one thing I don't skimp on is quality that I offer in my courses.
As the course grows, I keep looking for ways to grow. I need to be a few steps ahead of everyone and be a better communicator and educator. I also improve the materials because I genuinely want to help others thrive and become a better person. So, lately I read a lot once again and study different fields because my students come from different backgrounds and might have different needs.
As much as I am excited with my course and student grow, I still worry if my students do not feel that their progress is significant at all. Being a mentor isn't easy at all at times. Though the materials are something that's very natural to me, I still need to learn once in a while from various sources to better and deepen their understanding.
One of the things I also do to myself is using the same method of teaching my students to help myself learn another language. My premise was very simple, I wanted to know if my approach would also work universally and it is something that works to learn language faster.
Most conventional teaching out there doesn't help at all. It's all basic and requires a long time to reach even B1 ( standard used by CEFR) but I want to know if there's really shortcut that one can learn to at least be one level above their current ones. So, I am testing it to myself by learning Spanish and to my students who want to improve their English.
Perhaps, this year is my season to unlock how to study anything faster. Who knows what I'll get from this but I am definitely excited. At the same time, I also learn to create systems and scheduling for my new students. Otherwise, it'll be very challenging for me to keep track of every batches and private students.
It was a good break from all the work and works like a reset day. Now, I need to hustle once again ๐
