Do you have a passion for eating fruit seeds?
Me? I really like any food whether it's fruit or seeds as long as it's edible I’m not picky.
Speaking of edible seeds one of the most common available seeds in our area is breadnuts. They are only scattered when there are large trees that cannot be reached by humans for consumption, so when they ripen they just fall and that's when I collect its seeds.
Second is the jackfruit seeds, because they grow in our area very often so every season we collect the seeds and we save them and when we have a lot, we cook them depending on what cooking method we want but for me roasted one is best.
However the exotic fruit marang was seasoned this year while I was feasting its flesh I decided I put all the seeds aside and realized that it looked like jackfruit seed but smaller.
And because of this, I discovered what if I try to cook this seeds for snacks. So I then first made sure that it was edible, I did some research and that's when I confirmed that it is also edible. The next step I did was I washed it and sun dried it first.
Then as for the cooking method, I first tried roast. I just cooked it in a pan until it turned black and cooked. (Just a reminder if you also want to try to be careful when cooking because when it's too hot sometimes they burst)
As for eating it, I just sprinkle a pinch of salt and remove its skin, and here you will get a small almond shape seeds.
Its taste has a nutty and piquant flavor that I can compare to the taste of potatoes, it's slightly also like peanuts but over all it has a big similar taste of a jackfruit seeds.
For now I'm happy to know that marang seeds are also edible. I have another addition to the list of seeds I can make into snacks, but this fruit doesn't grow in my area, so I’ll be waiting for its seasons. Next time, I'll try boiled. I'll see what the difference is.
