Recently, I have been more and more surprised to discover a close connection between different parts of Europe, where I seem to get by just randomly pointing my finger at the globe. Only recently I talked about the Italian Loreto, where pilgrims come to touch the house of the Virgin Mary, which, according to legend, the angels moved from Nazareth (according to another version, the Crusaders transported the house by pebbles). And here I am on Trsat hill near the Croatian Rijeka, pilgrims come here too. And all why? Because those same angels from the legend stopped here on their way to Italy to rest.
At the top of the hill, where a staircase of 540 steps leads (some pilgrims walk this path on their knees), in the Church of the Holy Mother of God of Trsatskaya there is a miraculous icon painted, according to legend, by the evangelist Luke. Nearby is a Franciscan monastery, in the chapel of which gifts to the Virgin from rescued sailors and healed cripples are kept.
Another attraction of the hill is the 13th-century Trsat castle, from the towers of which a beautiful view of Rijeka opens.
