Good Morning.. How has your week been? It is Saturday again. Today, I am going to take you to an iconic place here in Miri. Why is this place iconic?
In the year 1910, oil was first found here, right up here at this very hill known as Canada Hill.
At the moment, this is the highest point here in Miri, where you can view the whole city, and there is a huge Hollywood-style sign of Miri that you can see all the way from the city below. The best time to come here is around 3 in the afternoon and exit at around the latest 6 p.m. It can get quite dark at night, except for the viewing part of the city from high up here.

At the moment, this sits here for tourists to look at. There is also a petroleum museum nearby. At this museum, you can learn how oil is extracted from the ocena floor and there is also a model of the oil rig that is currently out at sea.
Then, the best thing is that this place is a popular hiking area for hikers. You can spend hours hiking here. But, today, I was not here to hike. I was just here for the fresh air.
This trail is around 150 metres above sea level.
There is a water tank at the top and this is the place where there is a huge weather radar station that is used to predict weather patterns, track storms and measure rain fall.
The best view here in Miri. You can see the whole city from up here, and on the horizon is the ocean. That is the South China Sea. This is a popular spot for a lot of families that come here to enjoy the view of the city.
This is the Miri sign that you can see from all the way from the city.
After about an hour, it is time to head home. There is also an area where you can buy food and drinks.
Thank you very much for reading this post. Have a wonderful day ahead.
