Snails, - yes we love to hate them.
However, one must also admire them and learn from them.
The shell of the snail is actually very beautiful if studied closely and when the snail is still small, the shell is very delicate and so fragile that just by picking up the snail can be damaged.
Yet, despite this, the tiny snail moves around and at the same time builds its house.
When it comes to feeding itself, the snail knows exactly where the best food can be found in the garden.
As I do not use any type of poisons, the snails can go anywhere - however, I remove them from veggies and plants and relocate them in parts of the garden where they can look for food.
But, snails are not stupid and they know exactly where the best food can be found and no matter how long it takes, they will make their way there.
I have containers high up on a balcony and check the plants on a regular basis and when I find a snail, it is removed and put downstairs and I am amazed as to how they know what is growing in my containers and even more amazed that they make this trip to the balcony top time and time again - that shows great determination.
During the recent drought that we had, there was not a snail to be seen - they are clever enough to find a spot out of the heat and just wait for the rain.
We had some rain this morning and when I went out to feed the birds, there were a whole group of snails having their own party!
