Steaming hot Summer days came to an end and we welcomed the cooler but still sunny Autumn days with open arms!
Living in a summer rainfall area where the humidity increases when the sun comes out with a vengeance, we're always happy to say goodbye to Summer!
Then we had a surprise visit from Summer, not welcome at all!
I removed the fleecy blankets as just looking at them made me hot!
What better than a delicious bowl of fresh Fruit Salad for brunch; nothing else was needed after a big serving of this sunshiny goodness.
I'm still lamenting the fall of our giant old Papaya trees which provided the sweetest fruit all year round; the monkeys and the birds must also be missing them.
These trees were quite old but we discovered the cause of them falling over and that was tiny ants that had invaded the roots!
A lesson to be learned here, do not let the small things in life get you down like what happened to our poor old trees that had been so generous over the years; providing food for the animals and humans!
Our cottage roof was slightly damaged when the last tree fell; it made a hectic noise as it woke us and the guests inside so they had a bit of a scare in the middle of the night! This happened at the end of last year during our rainy season.
Ever since then I have to buy Papayas from my Green-Grocer-on-Wheels.
Fortunately his fresh produce comes straight from the Fresh Produce Market so it's not refrigerated for days on end, much better for the taste of the fruit.
Fruit Salad...
We thankfully still have Tamarillo Trees, smallish trees with weak branches so the monkeys thankfully cannot get to them; they're really delicious. One scoops out the soft pips and flesh, it has an intense flavour which is a mix between a passion fruit and a guava. This fruit is also known as a Tree Tomato, although it doesn't taste anything like a Tomato, it's way more delicious!.
SO...guess what arrived after a couple of hot Summer nights?
Winter, not Autumn! There had been snowfall on the Drakensberg Mountains and the icy winds reached us here, so out came the fleecy blankets again, and I started searching for...
Soup Ingredients...
A delicious steaming hot bowl of soup and a fresh bread roll was just the thing for this icy cold Autumn day.
