I heard her calling out to me from the ocean, and as I got closer, I heard her sing. At first, I thought it was just a hallucination, on account of the magic mushrooms that I had consumed earlier that evening. But her enchanting song drew me towards the distant shore.

There she was in beauty and mythic splendor. Floating in the waves. Ah yes, I still remember. Half woman and half sea-creature.

This fabled maiden showed me things I could not believe. Worlds and wonders beyond comprehension. Every day at dusk, it was so. Down by the shore bedecked in shells and pebbles. We swam away from shore and delighted in the eternal realms 'till morning.

Day by day, our love grew and blossomed beneath the twilight. The impossibility of it. A rare jewel in the vast cosmos.

Then as mysteriously as she had arrived, she was gone. Just like that. She stopped coming to meet me. There was no explanation. No goodbye. No Dear John. Nothing but distant echoes.

As the years have gone by, I wonder if she had been real at all. Maybe she had been just a hallucination. An imprint to that place of power.

No, it couldn't be. I dared not entertain the thought. She had been real, alright. As real as the wind.

I still go down to the shore in hopes she will return. Someday perhaps. She'll appear in the water and wave at me. Then I'll go to her and join her in the deep blue ocean.
