I have a calcite crystal on my desk that catches my eye sometimes when the light hits it just right. It was producing some nice color patterns that I was trying to take a photo of with my smart phone. The camera never captures the full detail of the image and getting it into the position of where my eye was did not capture the color correctly either. I moved the phone around trying to get an image of what I was seeing.
The result was pleasing by I wanted to try to modify it a bit more to see if I could add some kind of feeling to the photo.
The highlights were all blown out and you could not see much of the detail that you could with your eye, so I tried to paint in a bit of detail there.
The color patterns that originally attracted me to capture the photo were not showing well either so I tried to adjust the levels to enhance them. This made the image a bit darker.
I thought I would try to add some patterning and a vignette around the image to make it feel a bit more mysterious.
Here’s the result:
This is my way of trying different things and seeing how they look. Each day I like to try new things out depending on if the mood strikes me.
Here’s the original picture for comparison:
For a better result next time I might try out the better camera that I have. I do like trying to add some painting effects to the photos.
