When I first got my medical marijuana card over 10 years ago in California, one of the reasons to gain a 215 card at the office I was applying for was nightmares. This made perfect sense to me because cannabis inhibits action on the hippocampus, therefore dreams are less frequent and less significant. Most cannabis users can attest to this. Although I also noticed when I stopped using cannabis my dreams are much more pronounced than when I went a long period of time without using. With a great interest in lucid dreaming, I started to realize I can use this effect to my advantage.
The idea of using cannabis or any substance for that matter in a dream first came to me while studying Terrence Mckenna. He stated that if one smokes DMT in a dream, the effects would be fully experienced. I have not consciously done this while dreaming although I have applied the concept to cannabis with great success. My first experience was about 7 years ago, it seemed more realistic than waking life itself and the moment I became "too" conscious or lucid, I woke up. During this time I was also taking a "tolerance break" and the effects held for 3-5 seconds while being awake. Lately I've been able to slightly harness this ability to a greater effect.
There is a very special moment right before I enter a dream where I can steer the rudders of the dream realms with intention. This is often called the theta brain wave state or hypnagogia; often accomplished during meditation. During my recent tolerance check I noticed that this is the key to attempt to set myself in virtually whatever dream I like. I noticed that I don't have much control and things can get weird... fast... although it is where I can at minimum steer myself to where I want to go. Before I know it, I'm experiencing the full ecstatic elation of the finest cannabis available and often it seems more real than waking life.
To me this is truly amazing. Not as if dreams weren't mysterious enough, it's starting to seem like a skill that can be acquired with the right chemical equation paired with timing and intention. Sweet dreams Steemians!!!
