Continuing the "Undiscovered Egypt" theme, I want to tell you about another active and interesting travel route of my trip - a hike to the Wishwashi Canyon.
First we are served breakfast at the campsite, followed by an outdoor hike through Wishwashi Canyon. The excursion lasted a good half day, we traveled more than 6 km on foot, although there is an option to choose a 10 km road.
South Sinai has truly many hidden gems and little breathtaking magical places, that I'm not sure if my lifetime will be enough to explore all of them.
More than 10 canyons can be seen in the desert and mountains of the Sinai Peninsula. A canyon is a deep gorge eroded by a river, located in the territory of the Earth and a narrow valley between rocks affected by erosion.
Have you experienced the feeling of freedom permeating your entire body? Most often, this happens in nature, where human activity is almost invisible, and all that surrounds is a landscape of extraordinary beauty. This is exactly the feeling you get when visiting the canyons.
When visiting the canyons of Sinai, their territory is not large, so people often do not dare to call the canyons of Egypt by the name of canyons, comparing them with the well-known canyons of the world.
In Egypt, the canyons are different, smaller in area, but located in beautiful places: some are only accessible by SUV, others are less known and/or only accessible on foot. One of such canyons - Wishwashi canyon was waiting for us.
Of course, I would never refuse to explore this beautiful green pool of the canyon and jump into its water.
We traveled off-road, where even camels do not set foot, we admired the granite mountains, which shined as if they were polished, polished by wind and rain. After stopping, we enjoyed the humming silence, when only the howling wind and the flapping of the insects' wings can be heard.
We ascended and descended, overcame mountain gorges, crawled between large boulders where a human body can barely fit, and finally reached a bathing place. It is located between the mountains, in a stone basin, and the water in this pond is rainwater. The depth is about 2.5 meters, but if you look at the mark carved into the mountains, it can sometimes reach 4 meters. The water is brown in color and a bit cold, but it does not prevent those who wish to wash off the dust or bathe. Local Egyptians are very fond of this place.
After swimming, those who wished could travel to the oasis (about 4 km), see palm trees and date fruits, and observe other plants growing in the desert. A short respite, on the way back in the valley or at the campsite, a Bedouin lunch was waiting for us (light snacks and Bedouin tea).
Drinking water was distributed at the beginning of the excursion, we could take as much as we wanted with us. But you should not forget that you will have to carry it yourself during the entire trip. Both light snacks (Bedouin lunch) and tea and water was included in the price of the trip. We returned to the campsite in the evening.
This trip had everything I needed - primordial nature, some extreme, and relaxation of mind! And everything just in one day. If you like nature, adventures and relaxation, a wonderful canyon Vishwashi with magical lake lost between rocks is a great choice.
