I came to this ski resort this winter by accident. After skiing in Livigno, we wanted to go to Andorra, but our friends persuaded us to go to the resort Madonna di Campiglio. Of course, Italy is more expensive than Andorra, but the mountain slopes in the Alps are much better than in the Pyrenees. And you won't find such amazing mountain views in Andorra. Everything is easier there. And we already were in Italy, so close to this resort.
The resort itself is beautiful, but compared to Livigno it is a little boring there. In the evening there is absolutely nowhere to go ... Of course, with active skiing, you don’t really want to go anywhere. After a day spent in the fresh air, in the evening you just fall asleep. Such a great sleep, like in the mountains, I have not had anywhere else.
But, in any case, there are days free from skiing. Skiing every day to the evening is impossible for me personally. On the third day, the muscles hurt terribly from unusual loads. And we were after skiing in Livigno, and we felt enough tired. And just in such hours I want to see something interesting. But there is nothing special. Shopping, as in Livigno, is also not there.
Of course, there are different cafes and even several discos, but I'm not very interested in discos anymore. You can just walk around. But walking in the evenings is damp and cold. This was my first time in the Italian Dolomite include Livigno. And in terms of entertainment, everything was already boring.
But the Dolomite are of course beautiful. The views are simply breathtaking. A wide variety of different lifts. And different traces. Long, wide and well groomed. For every taste and every level of skiing.
Therefore, if you are a beginner, you should not be afraid. It is here - on long, wide, simple tracks of several kilometers - that you can learn to ski.
Several ski areas were combined, for which you can purchase a common ski pass. Madonna di Campiglio, Pinzolo, Folgarida Marilleva, Val di Sole. As a result, we got about 150 km of excellent slopes for skiing. There are slopes for beginners (green and blue) as well as for advanced skiers and snowboarders (red and black).
I was skiing on the blue and red traces. On the blue ones I used to ski and admire the mountain landscapes. On the reds I get the necessary extreme. Haven't decided on black yet.
The height of the mountains is up to 2600 m above sea level. To be honest, I can't stand such heights well. I get headaches and when climbing to a great height, I also get a little nauseous.
Ski passes are different. You can take different number of days. The price depends on it. There are discounts for children and the elderly.
I would like to say more about an excellent school for training beginner skiers. We didn't go there, of course. But all these schools were highly praised. You can also send your child there. And while instructors are working with them, they can ride where they want to. Many people do this.
We lived next to the ski lift. It's convenient enough. No need to take buses...
The contingent of vacationers is different, but mostly Italians. Immediately after the Christmas, there were only Italians who had a rest till the New Year holidays.
Fans of parties and glamour, most likely will not like it. The resort will seem boring. Madonna di Campiglio is more suitable for couples with children. And there were a lot of kids.
The first thing I liked was the convenience of getting to the resort. From Bergamo Orio al Serio airport every day at 11-40 there is a Flixbus bus directly to Madonna di Campiglio. Travel time 3 hours. Ticket price 9.90 Euro.
Also, you can take it in Milan at the Lampugnano bus station at 10-30. From there, the journey will take just over 4 hours. You can also go from Verona, but flights to it are more expensive and you will have to travel with transfers (first you will need to get to the Verona station, then by train to Trento and there already take a bus to Madonna di Campiglio), which will take longer and more expensive.
The second plus is the compactness of the resort and the ability to walk to the ski lifts. Ski buses run around the resort, but we did not use them.
The third is landscapes. Still, the Dolomites are very beautiful.
Many blue runs are more like green ones. Often had to go in a straight line. The red ones are great!
And now for the cons.
Catering at the resort is expensive and very scarce. We could not even get into the only restaurant Le Roi that we liked - there were a lot of people, we had to book. We fed ourselves mainly by products from the supermarket and pizza. Dinner on the mountain turned out to be more profitable and easier. In Madonna di Campiglio itself, shops and restaurants opened only after the siesta.
Very poor promenade. Literally a couple of gift shops and the rest are boutiques. There is nothing to do in the evenings. It saved us that our Hotel Bonapace had a spa area. Of the attractions there is, perhaps, a waterfall. The path to it is not close (about 3 km), it was especially difficult to walk along a narrow path in deep snow.
In general, we were satisfied with the rest, but more than a week, it would be boring there. You can, of course, travel around the districts (Trento, Garda, etc.), but these are quite long distances.
All in all, I recommend this resort. Skiing here is much cooler than in mountains of Andorra. But the atmosphere in Livigno is closer to me. Although I would like to return to the Italian Dolomites. But perhaps - to another resort.
