It's week one hundred and nine [WE109] of #weekend-engagement and the this entry is made in response to the question below.
We're all human and all do stupid things but what things do you think people look stupid doing? Tell us a few of your own or other people's and why you think people look stupid doing them.
There are a lot of things people look stupid while doing. Some people do these out of ignorance while in other cases, they do them to consciously give themselves "better" identity. Some of these are highlighted as follows.
Talking while eating
Some people are of the habit of chewing or swallowing food and talking simultaneously. Whenever anyone is doing this, he looks stupid going by the unpleasant results of such combination. It's irritating and if you are around such person, you would hate your being there at that particular time. Some people don't know how stupid it is until they are corrected.
Doing things to impress another person.
I once boarded a train transiting from my town to another town, about 200 km away. While in the train, I was seated at one end of the back seat while a beautiful lady was seated next to me and after her was a man. A newspaper vendor came around to sell dailies. In an attempt to display himself as an educated man to impress this lady and probably set the pace for wooing her, the man bought a sports newspaper. Immediately he bought the paper, he began to review the paper aloud but unknown to him, he was handling the paper upside down and was giving wrong analysis. It was the lady that respectfully called his attention to the way he was holding the paper. He looked very stupid at that point. He could not open the paper again neither did he utter any word till we all alighted from the train at the terminus.
In most cases, doing things to impress others rather than displaying your true identity may makes one look stupid.
Picking of finger with another finger.
Some people are found of using a clean nail to pick the dirt under another nail. In such attempt the clean nail is stained with the dirt and in trying to remove it, another clean nail is involved. Instead of getting rid of the dirt in the first finger with something else, it ended up being distributed among other clean fingers.
Trying to force yourself not to sleep.
If there is one thing that is hard to do naturally, it is trying to force yourself not to sleep when nature is calling. I have seen people hit head on the desk while trying to stay awake to read. Some despite having their legs in buckets of water slept off. In my university days, I saw a lot of such. At the end, it makes one looks as if you are not in charge of your brain.
