Every morning, before leaving home for work, I take one last look in the mirror by the entrance. I check my hair, my clothes and my face. I usually find myself looking almost perfect, or at least as good as I can manage before heading out. I pick up my things and leave, ready to face another day.

But the day begins to take its toll from the very first steps. There is the wait at the bus stop, the journey to work, the tasks waiting for me when I arrive. Before I have even settled in, someone may call to ask for something, give me an assignment or bring up a new project. Each situation needs an answer, but not every answer comes with the same energy.

Some tasks are easy to handle. Others require more patience, especially when something goes wrong or an unexpected problem appears. There are moments when I have to find a little extra strength to keep going, even if I am already tired. And the hours continue to pass, bringing new requests and leaving less energy for the things that come next.

In the morning, when I look at myself in the mirror, I rarely think about all that awaits me. I see someone ready to leave, with the day still ahead. I cannot know what will happen or how many times I will have to change my plans. I just take my bag and go.

When the afternoon comes and I leave work, there is another mirror in the entrance hall of the building. Sometimes I happen to catch my reflection as I walk past. The image is familiar, but it is not quite the same one I saw at home that morning. My face may look more tired, and my thoughts are already on the journey back. I do not always stop to look closely. I just notice the difference and keep walking.

Then I get home, and the mirror by my entrance is there again. It almost seems to ask what happened to the person who left that morning looking so ready for the day. My energy is nearly gone, my feet are tired, and there may still be things on my mind that I have not managed to resolve.

Still, I am standing there. I put down my bag, leave my keys in their usual place and begin to settle in. There is no need to look perfect anymore. I can change my clothes, sit down for a while and let the day come to an end.

I have never thought that a mirror could tell me how my day went. It only reflects what is in front of it. But when I think about those three moments, I see how much can change between leaving home and coming back.

Perhaps what I need to remember is that I do not have to look the same at the end of the day as I did at the beginning. I have dealt with people, made decisions, solved problems and tried to meet expectations. It is normal to come home with less energy than I had when I left.

Tomorrow morning, I will probably stand in front of that same mirror again, fix my hair and take one last look before going out. I will be ready to start another day, knowing that I cannot control everything that will happen, but that I can try to face it one step at a time.

Do you ever notice how different you look in the mirror at the end of the day compared with the person who left home that morning?

Recojo mis cosas y me voy, dispuesta a enfrentar otro día.
