Hello, dear Holos & Lotus community!
A few days ago, a cousin left his bicycle at home because he had some things to take care of and could not take it with him. Later, he asked me to bring it to him when I was going to where he was. Since I had to go in that direction anyway, I thought I could take the opportunity to ride the bicycle for a while.
It had been a long time since I had ridden a bicycle, and at first it took me a little while to find my rhythm. After a few minutes, everything started to feel natural again. I began to enjoy the ride, look at the streets more calmly and pay attention to things that usually pass in front of me without giving them much thought.
When we walk or ride a bicycle, it is easier to stop. We can look at something, greet someone, change our route or simply keep going without worrying about getting there as soon as possible. That day I was not in a hurry, and I think that made me enjoy the ride more.
While I was riding, I started thinking about how many things we carry with us every day. I am not only talking about things that can fit inside a backpack. We also carry worries, unfinished tasks, memories, conversations that did not go the way we wanted and things we keep thinking about even though they have already happened.
Many of these things become part of our routine. We get so used to carrying them that we stop asking ourselves whether we still need to. We keep thinking about a problem we cannot solve right now, remembering a mistake that already happened or worrying about something that has not even happened yet.
That ride made me think that carrying less does not always mean having fewer things. It can also mean leaving some space to enjoy what we are living. When we are not busy thinking about everything we are carrying behind us, we can pay more attention to what is in front of us.
I do not think we can go through life without worries. We all have responsibilities and situations that need our attention. We also cannot simply decide to forget something that hurts us. Some things need time, and others become part of our story. But we can learn not to carry them with us every hour of every day.
I like to think that some things can stay at home, just like a backpack we do not need for a short trip. Not because they are unimportant, but because not everything has to come with us everywhere.
When I arrived at my destination, I had to return the bicycle and continue with my own things. The ride had not been long, and nothing special had happened. It was just a small trip that happened because my cousin had left his bicycle at home and needed me to bring it to him.
Still, I kept thinking about how good it feels to move forward with only what we need. We cannot always choose the road or control what appears along the way, but from time to time we can look at what we are carrying.
Maybe one of these days I will ride a bicycle again, even when I do not have to take anything to anyone. Just to go out for a while, pedal without rushing and remember that there are moments when moving forward can be this simple.
Thank you for stopping to look at this small everyday moment with me. See you in the next observation.
