Greeting all
Latest update! I hope you all enjoy it!
The world was hot. The sky was a smoky red and stank. Saita couldn’t place the smell at first. She had never experienced mass burnings before, but when she had found the first crematorium, still working after being abandoned, she started to understand why the sky was the colour it was.
This world, no, the universe had even less energy than the world she had just left. Returning would be difficult, and she would have to make use of much of her marks once more, but it was possible.
All around her there was chaos as Wolven ran people down and devoured them. Saita’s instinct was to step in, but she had to stop herself. There was nothing she could do. This world was done for. She could feel what energy was left slowly being drained toward a certain part of the planet. She knew that this was the Fell Dragon of this timeline, and it was unlike Kay.
While not bestial, it wasn’t like anything Saita had ever sensed before. Yet, the Wolven, she knew, and they were swarming around it. That and one more person.
Saita was aware that there was another person, but she couldn’t read the energy as well as she could others. It was similar with Kay and was likely that their energy was too much the same. Just like you couldn’t recognise your own scent while others could smell it.
Saita took a deep breath and visualised the woman that caused Bolx to eventually fall in love with her. Then, as she released her breath, she teleported to her. Saita had to ready her replaced arm to backhand a Wolven as it tried to latch its jaws around the kneeling woman’s throat.
“Not yet.” Warned Saita.
The creature, an amalgamation of metal and flesh, landed hard and struggled to get to its feet. It seemed to do a double take and then fixed the new threat with a confused look while the rest of its kind tried to swarm.
Saita wasn’t sure how it would affect time, but she had no qualms in destroying anything that came her way in this moment. The confused Wolven yipped a few times, and the attacking Wolven skidded to a halt. It then stood up and seemed to weigh its chances of taking on the new warrior before it.
Then a mournful song came floating toward the gathered humans and Wolven. Saita allowed her eye to wander to where the Fell Dragon stood. It was too far away to gather much more information than that it had red skin, and it was walking on two legs. It stood on the top of a crumbling building with a massive pack of Wolven. Saita could feel its eyes on her, but it didn’t make a move to get to her. It was as if it recognised what she was, whether a Champion or a Fell Dragon, and it didn’t seem to want to take her on.
“So, you made it.” Came a voice behind her. “The old softy.”
“Yeah.” Said Saita, not taking her eye off the Fell Dragon and the writhing mass of furred bodies behind it.
“It’s here for me. You don’t…”
“Leave.” Ordered Saita as she looked at the Wolven that surrounded them.
As one, all tails were tucked between legs, and the beasts leapt back to rejoin their master. Saita could feel the surprise of their master and its indecisiveness. She needed to route it now, or she would have to fight.
“You too. There is nothing here for you.”
The creature seemed to raise its arm in a salute, and then it was gone, along with the pack that followed it. However, Saita wasn’t sure if all the beasts had been taken by their master or there were a few that remained on the planet to complete the harvest.
That was what Saita had felt. A harvest. This was the power of a Fell Dragon at the peak of its power, a power that she too would wield one day. She slowly released the breath she was holding and turned to the woman kneeling in mud mixed with her own blood. She was almost glad that Bolx wasn’t here to see this.
Kaiden had a gash across the right side of her face that had opened her oral cavity to the outside world. One arm hung limply at her side while her other was trying to hold back whatever internal organs were trying to escape through several deep slashes.
“Thank God the General didn’t come himself.” She muttered, her speech impacted by the gaping hole in her cheek.
“I don’t think he had the strength to see the outcome.” Admitted Saita. “Here.”
Saita wrapped her right hand around the blood-soaked top of Kaiden’s head and gave her the ability to deaden the pain she was experiencing. She even helped her kick-start it, as she didn’t have much energy remaining.
It wouldn’t be long now.
Kaiden sighed and sat down. She looked up to where the Fell Dragon was and then looked up at the sky. She was silent for a long time before she asked.
“He had a good life?”
“Yes.”
“Children?”
“Yes.”
Kaiden released a sound that made Saita think she was choking back a sob.
“Was he happy?”
“Yes.”
Kaiden looked up at Saita and smiled grotesquely. “I did my best.”
“Thank you.”
Kaiden nodded her head. They didn’t speak again. There was nothing worth talking about. Each had gotten what they needed from this meeting, and there was nothing else that could be gained.
A short, final goodbye to the woman that brough Bolx into Saita's life. I hope you all enjoyed the upodate!
