Our place in the San Luis Valley is nicknamed Z casa or Casa Zorro. This is due to the proximity of foxes. When we started renovation about a year ago, there was a dead fox on the land.
Not a bad totem to have. When we get a few chickens I may revise this opinion.
Also under the house was this skull. Possibly a fox. Or badger.
We are also surrounded by wild horses. Unlike most wild horses in Colorado, these are not managed by BLM. Wild horses are always controversial in that they can be expensive to manage, can be considered a nuisance and have been known to eat the feed intended for farm animals. According to my neighbor, the genetics of these horses ties directly back to the Conquistadors : Andalusian mix
which would, of course, include some Arabian/ North African breeds.
Our current critters of the domesticated variety include a cat and a dog. Farley, the sheepdog, definitely earns his keep. Without sheep right now, he is not bad at herding cattle. This is, as you might expect, a bit more dangerous. A well placed kick from the steer can do some mighty damage. Gotta say, we really couldn’t do without our sheep dogs. The cat simply rules her domain ike the queen she is.
