It's been a while since I've done a #beersaturday post so I think it's about time that I did one. Here are a few drink experiences that we had in Germany during out trip to Bavaria.

Let me start by saying that I really like the beer in the Bavaria region. I'm not an expert on German beer by any means, but I have noticed some differences between the different regions of the country. If anyone else knows more about the subject please feel free to chime in and correct me if I'm wrong though.
Beer in Nuremberg
Firstly, I've noticed that dark beer varieties are much more prevalent in Bavaria compared to some other Northwestern parts of the country. In and around cologne I always found it much harder to find dark beer at restaurants and bars. It wasn't impossible but I found less options and there was a greater chance that it wouldn't be available. I also noticed that there were more non-wheat beer options in Bavaria as well, which I also prefer.

One last thing that I noticed but could be wrong about was that the beers in Bavaria seemed to be a little bigger than other places. 0.5L seemed to be the standard there whereas 0.25L seemed to be more common in the North. I could be wrong about that but it did seem to be my experience that more people ordered many smaller beers than a one large one. I also saw full 1L steins being sold in Bavaria much more frequently as well, and those were often much harder to come by in the Northwest. I still have yet to order a 1L stein by the way. It's on my bucket list of things to do.

We had some drinks in Bamberg. A beer for me and something different for her.
I don't recall what her drink was called but I think that she enjoyed it. It looked refreshing.
One of the first drinks that we had on the trip was in the Handwerkerhof Village.
The place was very charming with a old German pub feel to it. I'm sure that was exactly their plan.
The interior was very rustic, reminiscent of a cottage or of Grandmothers house.
Lots of wood accents and old tools, kitchen utensils and general housewares decorated the walls.
I had a dark beer there, obviously,
and my wife had a glass of white wine. I like in Germany how the wine glasses are small but they fill them right to the top. I always found that to be a neat little cultural thing that immediately makes me think of Germany.
