So I'm trying out some new vegan snacks from the Asian specialty store, and after having eaten a few them, am suddenly convinced that although delicious, what I'm actually eating are strips of marinated meat and seafood.

So I phone up my mate to have his partner translate the ingredients on the back of the packaging and it turns out that these products are made from the Konjac plant; also known as 'Devil's Tongue', 'Voodoo Lily', and 'Corpse Flower', as it emits the smell of rotting flesh and faeces to attract pollinators.

Anyway, this is a fascinating plant with a huge array of medicinal and food applications; one of them of course being a very effective meat substitute.
