This is my participation in this invites you to write about "The Movement"., with a subject that has a lot of fabric to tell, yes I wrote tell, because each one cuts that fabric in his best way to tell what he thinks about “The Movement”
I learned that late, or maybe I learned it exactly when I was supposed to — which is almost always the same thing, haha, as they say, timing is perfect. There's this funny thing that happens to me when I stay still for too long, and I'm not just talking about my body, but everything — plans, projects, ideas — it's like something inside starts nudging me, softly at first, then harder, letting me know it's time to move. And we Venezuelans, by nature, are people of movement — I'm sure you feel the same way — we move even when we don't want to. Let me be clear: who doesn't like to dance? Life itself here teaches you that whoever stands still, gets left behind.
But the movement I remember most, the one that marked me the most, wasn't in my legs. It was one of those nights, several years ago now, when I made a decision that felt enormous at the time, but that today I recognize as one of those real turning points in my life. I was sitting at home with that feeling we all know — that strange mix of exhaustion and wanting something more — staring at the ceiling as if it was going to hand me an answer. My wife was there, my daughters in their rooms, probably asleep, and there I was, at that point where you feel you have to move toward something, but you're not quite sure what.
I know it wasn't a grand gesture. It wasn't spectacular. There was no background music, no one clapping — nothing like the movies. It was simply taking what I had in my head and starting to build it, little by little, with whatever was at hand. That's something I've learned here in Lechería, in this corner of Anzoátegui that I love so much — that great movements don't announce themselves. They simply happen when you decide not to stay still anymore.
Sometimes when I think about movement, I think about that — about how the body follows the mind, and the mind follows the heart that creates feeling. If any one of the three gets stuck, the other two eventually feel it too. And the best way to break that stagnation isn't to wait for the perfect motivation or the ideal moment — because that ideal moment arrives when it's meant to arrive — but to simply take the first step, even if it's a small one, even if no one sees it, even if you're not entirely convinced yourself.
Still water, as Angelica rightly says, ends up smelling bad. And that applies to everything — projects, dreams, relationships, even the body itself. So without further hesitation, I move today, and I'll move tomorrow too, because for me, just like with the different stories I've written before, movement begins the very moment you open your eyes and decide that this day is going to be different from the one before.
And that decision, even if no one sees it, is the most powerful movement of all.
