In the area where I live on the side of the road there are many palm trees and large bushes that adorn the streets, I always hear the neighbors warning people to be careful when passing through these places. These days I had the opportunity to pass by, paying close attention to where I was walking, the big surprise, I ran into this worm, walking on the pavement, for me it was very rare, what caught my attention were its colors and how big it was, at first glance I could perceive the softness of its skin, this larva or caterpillar pernota in these trees, surely fell from the tree or perhaps went out to explore.
This curious animal led me to investigate a little, and I observed that among the many species that exist; there is the amate worm that is very similar to the one I found, others inhabit the cahulote trees and here in our region it is called the "Gusano de la Palma", in the palms it remains all the time feeding on their leaves.
I was able to understand that its life span undergoes a transformation in several stages; they feed on the leaves of the palm where they lay their eggs and after about a month they become larvae, then they create their nest with the same leaves and for a time in a phase that lasts about 120 days they become caterpillars, at this stage they live devouring the leaves of the trees.
These changes are called holometabolism or complete metamorphosis, and in its different molts it becomes a charming butterfly with different colors.

En la zona donde vivo a la orilla de la carretera hay muchas palmeras y grandes arbustos que adornan las calles, siempre escucho a los vecinos advertir a las personas que tengan cuidado al pasar por estos lugares. Estos d铆as tuve la oportunidad de pasar por ah铆, prestando mucha atenci贸n por donde caminaba, la gran sorpresa, me top茅 con este gusano, caminando por la acera, para mi era muy raro, lo que me llam贸 la atenci贸n fueron sus colores y lo grande que era, a simple vista pude percibir la suavidad de su piel, esta larva u oruga pernota en estos 谩rboles, seguramente se cay贸 del 谩rbol o tal vez sali贸 a explorar.
Este curioso animal me llev贸 a investigar un poco, y observ茅 que entre las muchas especies que existen; est谩 el gusano amate que es muy parecido al que encontr茅, otros habitan en los 谩rboles de cahulote y aqu铆 en nuestra regi贸n se le llama el "Gusano de la Palma", en las palmas permanece todo el tiempo aliment谩ndose de sus hojas.
Pude entender que su vida sufre una transformaci贸n en varias etapas; se alimentan de las hojas de la palmera donde ponen sus huevos y despu茅s de un mes aproximadamente se convierten en larvas, luego crean su nido con las mismas hojas y por un tiempo en una fase que dura unos 120 d铆as se convierten en orugas, en esta etapa viven devorando las hojas de los 谩rboles.
Estos cambios se llaman holometabolismo o metamorfosis completa, y en sus diferentes mudas se convierte en una encantadora mariposa con diferentes colores.
