Hello, my dear and beloved Hive family. Warm greetings to each and every one of you. I hope you’re having a wonderful day; here in Havana it’s a bit chilly at the moment – the sort of weather that makes you want to stay snuggled up in bed, wrapped up warm under the duvet.
However, my husband and I decided to do something different: go for a walk in our favourite spot in the city – the gardens of the Hotel Nacional. I started the day like any other, getting up to do the housework, when I saw that my husband had a surprise for me. He’d bought me a red blouse and shorts – red being my favourite colour – and a lovely pair of white trainers. He then added that he was officially inviting me out for a walk.

No obstante, mi esposo y yo decidimos hacer algo diferente, decidimos salir a dar un paseo a nuestro lugar favorito en la ciudad: el jardín del Hotel Nacional. Inicié el día como otro cualquiera, me levanté a hacer los quehaceres de la casa cuando veo que mi esposo me da una sorpresa. Me había comprado de regalo un juego de blusa y pantaloneta roja, el cual es mi color favorito y unos lindos tenis blancos. A lo que añadió que me estaba invitando oficialmente a salir a dar un paseo.
Faced with such a tempting invitation, I realised that all my plans to stay snuggled up in bed, nice and warm, had been thwarted. However, I had no doubt that it would be absolutely worth it.
So we decided to go for a stroll through El Vedado, starting by heading to the theatre, which we’d been wanting to visit for ages. El Vedado is renowned for having a large number of cinemas and theatres. This theatre was called ‘El Sótano’; we’d never been there before. It’s small and cosy and, as its name suggests, it’s literally a basement.
Ante tal invitación tan tentadora, me di cuenta que todos mis planes de quedarme acurrucada en la cama y bien calentita se habían visto frustrados. Sin embargo no me cabía duda de que valdría la pena totalmente.
Así nos decidimos a dar un paseo por el Vedado, comenzamos dirigiéndonos al teatro, que hace tiempo queríamos ir. El Vedado es destacado por tener gran cantidad de cines y teatros. Este teatro se llamaba "El Sótano", nunca antes habíamos ido. Es pequeño y acogedor y efectivamente como su nombre lo indica es un sótano literalmente.
After waiting a while for the performance to start, we went in and sat in some seats at the back. The performance began; I must confess I didn’t enjoy it much from the start, though my husband did. After a while, we decided to leave and carry on with our walk.
We headed to our favourite spot in the city, the garden of the Hotel Nacional. That magical place where the sky and the sea meet on the horizon and where you can take in the most beautiful views. This place is so lovely that all you need is some lovely company to have a really enjoyable and relaxing outing.
Luego de esperar un rato a que empezara la función, entramos y nos sentamos en unos asientos al final. La función comenzó, tengo que confesar que no me agradó mucho desde que inició, sin embargo a mi esposo sí. Transcurrido un tiempo, decidimos salir y proseguir con nuestro paseo.
Nos dirigimos a nuestro rincón favorito en la ciudad, el jardín del Hotel Nacional. Ese mágico lugar donde el cielo y el mar se besan en el firmamento y donde se pueden observar las vistas más hermosas. Este lugar es tan bello que no hace falta nada más que una compañía encantadora para tener una salida muy divertida y relajante.
Of course, my husband took some photos of me whilst I was showing off my new outfit, which he’d given me with so much love. Together we enjoyed some lovely hot cappuccinos, which was just what we fancied, because, as I was saying, the weather was a bit chilly – though not too much, as it’s not winter yet. Besides, here in Cuba there’s only one season and it’s called Summer, ha ha ha; the rest is just the odd cold front.
Something I love about this garden is its peacocks, which strut about as if they own the whole place, whilst adorning the view with their fan-like feathers – although it’s worth mentioning that they’re missing a few, but that doesn’t make them any less beautiful.
Por supuesto que mi esposo me hizo algunas fotos mientras estrenaba mi nuevo atuendo que con tanto amor me regaló. Juntos nos tomamos unos capuchinos bien calentitos, que es lo que nos apetecía, porque como les decía, el clima estaba algo fresco, no mucho, porque aún no es invierno. Además de que aquí en Cuba solo existe una estación y se llama Verano jajaja, lo demás es solamente algún que otro frente frío.
Algo que me encanta de este jardín son sus pavos reales, que se pasean como si fueran los dueños de todo el lugar, mientras adornan la vista con sus abanicos de plumas, aunque cabe decir que les faltan algunas, pero no dejan de ser más hermosos por ello.
As night fell, we could say: “And that’s the end of our outing” ha ha ha, so we headed back in our ‘calabaza’ taxi to our lovely little house to snuggle up in our little bed. I thank God that we were able to have such a lovely day and, at the same time, do something different to break out of the routine, which is very healthy. A big hug to you all. See you next time!
Al caer la noche pudimos decir: "y colorín colorado nuestra salida se ha acabado" jajaja, así volvimos en nuestro taxi "calabaza" a nuestra linda casita para poder acurrucamos en nuestra camita.
