WILD HIBISCUS IN MACRO

In the past, photos like this would end up in my trash bin. I used to think there wasn’t much you could do with images like that. Slowly, almost a year of working with photography and Lightroom has passed, and you know what? Today I realize that from almost every photo—even one that seems unsuccessful at first—you can sometimes create something really nice (well… maybe from almost every photo 😊).

It also shows me the progress I’ve made in photography. Although sometimes I feel like I should already be much further along. I always promise myself that I will practice new things and experiment with new camera settings, but when it actually comes down to it, I usually lean toward what I already know because it’s simply faster. But actually today’s post isn’t supposed to be about me—it’s about the flower below.

Meet the SCARLET ROSEMALLOW, a flower from the hibiscus group, more precisely from the mallow family (Malvaceae). This plant naturally occurs in the southeastern United States, mainly in wet environments such as swamps, marshes, and wet meadows—basically anywhere where the soil remains moist. It can grow up to about 2.5 meters tall, which makes it a very impressive plant in gardens.

The flowers consist of five petals that form a star-like shape, and in the center of the flower there is a distinctive pistil surrounded by stamens, which is a typical feature of hibiscus plants. The flowers are usually intense red or scarlet, which makes them particularly attractive to pollinators. Hibiscus flowers are especially popular with hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. This plant is often cultivated in gardens for several reasons. First, it is highly decorative. Second, it attracts pollinators. And third, it blooms beautifully in full sun and moist soil.
