This backpack could hold many stories of young people who travel the world with it or simply use it to go to school and prepare for life with a solid education. And although the backpack is simple, without a specific theme, and might be more reminiscent of a college student's bag, I prefer to think of it as one of those backpacks my younger daughters use for school.

Este morral puede guardar muchas historias de jóvenes que con él viajan alrededor del mundo o simplemente lo usan para ir a la escuela y prepararse para la vida con una buena base educativa. Y aunque el morral es sencillo, sin temática y que se puede relacionar más con el bolso de un estudiante universitario, yo prefiero tomarlo como esas mochilas que usan mis hijas menores para ir a su escuela.

Both of them have themed backpacks, but seeing this photo reminds me of all the things they prepare every night or early in the morning to carry on their small backs and bear the weight of what studying entails these days.

Ambas tienen morrales temáticos, pero ver esta foto me recuerda a todas las cosas que ellas preparan cada noche o temprano en la mañana para llevar en su pequeña espalda y cargar con el peso de lo que conlleva estudiar en estos tiempos.

These have been very difficult times in Venezuela, as we are in a period of uncertainty. Therefore, having to take my daughters to school fills me with worry. I know they will be well cared for at school and that where I live, nothing happened in relation to President Trump's attacks on my country, but even so, the worry is constantly on my mind.

Tiempos que en Venezuela no han sido para nada fáciles, ya que estamos en un período donde todo es incierto. Por lo que tener que llevar a mis niñas al colegio me llena de preocupación. Sé que en la escuela las cuidarán bien y que donde yo vivo no pasó nada en relación con los ataques que hizo el presidente Trump a mi país, pero aun así, la preocupación está latente en mi mente de manera constante.

So I wonder: if I, as a mother, am worried about their safety and well-being, as well as their future, what will my daughters think about what's happening? Will they be as worried as I am?

Entonces me pregunto: si yo, que soy madre, me siento preocupada por su seguridad y bienestar, así como también por su futuro, ¿qué pensarán mis hijas sobre lo que está pasando? ¿ellas también estarán tan preocupadas como yo?

We've talked about it at home, and although they're a little nervous, they're also excited to start classes again after the December holidays. They want to see their friends again, and that puts me at ease because I see them focusing on what really matters: living in the present moment.

Nosotras hemos hablado en casa y, aunque tienen un poco de nervios, también sienten entusiasmo por iniciar las clases nuevamente luego de las vacaciones decembrinas. Quieren ver a sus amigos de nuevo y en parte eso me tranquiliza porque veo que se enfocan en lo que realmente importa: vivir el momento presente.

When they get home after classes start, I plan to always make them a delicious meal that will make them feel safe and comfortable. A happy tummy is a happy heart. So while they do their part, I'll do mine as much as I can as a mother of two beautiful girls who have had to live through this time of anxiety and uncertainty. I will give them all the support I can, as I always have, but now more than ever because we need to be united as a family.

Cuando lleguen a casa luego de iniciar las clases, tengo planeado hacerles siempre una rica comida que las haga sentir seguras y cómodas. Una barriga feliz es un corazón contento. Así que mientras ellas hacen su parte, yo también haré la mía en la medida de lo posible como madre de dos niñas hermosas a las que les tocó vivir este momento de angustia e incertidumbre. De mi parte les daré todo el apoyo que pueda, como siempre lo he hecho, pero ahora más que nunca porque necesitamos estar unidos como familia.
