So it’s a good thing I was extra-productive yesterday, because I don’t know that I can say the same for today.

It wasn’t a total wash; I got started on a game idea that seems like it could be a little interesting.

Other than that, not a whole lot to report. Did some volunteering (always fun), and got a little work done.

Played some Borderlands 3, which I’ve been developing mixed feelings about. On one hand, it’s still pretty fun (and I will stand by my previous assertions that the writing has improved), but on the other it’s showing some more rough edges as you get further in; I keep finding new and interesting weapons but always wind up using basically the same thing (not that I mind that part), but the enemies in particular have started to feel pretty similar, even as they’ve been reskinned across the planets.

The story’s fun, though I do think that they fall into the “oh hey, our villain is evil, now let’s make them more evil” trap, which is especially galling because you go into a game like that looking for an excuse for action and you wind up pushing things so far to eleven that it’s difficult to believe that the antagonists could actually be as bad as they really are.

Like, c’mon, don’t break the suspension of disbelief by making people over-evil. It’s hard enough to give dramatic purpose, but if you pull it off in the first act let it rest a little.

Though, if we’re being honest, half of the reason I play Borderlands is to have something that requires nil brain power while I can listen to an audiobook or something, so my complaints about the plot (and, to be fair, the plot itself is fine, some of the scenes are just gratuitous) are perhaps misplaced.
