The word "starlight" means different things for different people and at different times. For me, as at now, I don't know what it means to me. However, if I give it a spiritual/Christian undertone, then I'd regard Christ as my Star, my Light and my Starlight (all of them).
I believe this interpretation that I've given to it actually prompted my song choice: Christ, Be our Light, by Bernadette Farrell.
Christ be our Light, is a beautiful song that speaks about Christ as the light of the world. It speaks about him as the one who comes to dispel the darkness of the world. It re-echoes the concatenation made by John in his Gospel account in the New Testament, where he refers to Christ as the Light that shines in darkness, and which darkness could not overpower, as well as the one who is the light of all men and women (cf. Jn 1:4-5).
The song also speaks about Christ dispelling the darkness in our hearts. The darkness of sin, of pride, of envy and of all vices. When these vices are dispelled, we seek to renew it with the love of Christ and the light if Christ, to revigorate, re-energize and reactivate us to always seek for virtues and live virtuous lives.
As Christians, we are called to radiate Christ to the world, to become like Christ. To carry this light for all people to see.
What light are we talking about?
For me, I believe it is the light of Love; the light of the Gospel message; the light of Salvation which can only be attained through Christ.
Truly, looking at our contemporary world today with the way things are, we begin to wonder if there is any need for Christianity today. But the truth us that, Christianity is always relevant, not just because of the message of Salvation, but because we are called to ease the burden of others, show love amidst hate and live exemplary lives for others to emulate.
