Hello everyone. How are you today? I hope all is well with you and your family. Today, my daughter, who lives in another district, brought me some Nile tilapia that her husband caught from the river. This is the start of our family lunch. Since the weather is lovely today, my wife and I are walking around the home garden to look for some fresh vegetables and cooking inspiration. There were no vegetables for new cooking ideas in the garden, but the wife and daughter wanted to use tilapia to make Fish Lettuce Wraps (Thais call it "Miang Pla"). So she walked into the garden again and picked basil and chili, the only two ingredients available for this dish.

This time, she picked the basil from along the wall outside the house, while she gathered the chilies from the backyard. There are also limes from the garden, but my wife picked them a few days ago. And my wife buys other vegetables for this dish from a fresh market near our home. They are still the vegetables that I haven't successfully grown myself yet.

Ingredients for Fish Lettuce Wraps (Miang Pla)

nile tilapia
lettuce
rice vermicelli
basil
chilies
lime
garlic
shallots
palm sugar
fish sauce

How to cook Fish Lettuce Wraps (Miang Pla), Fish Lettuce Wraps (Miang Pla) is a dish consisting of grilled or fried fish (usually Nile tilapia) served with rice vermicelli or Thai rice noodles, and other vegetables like lettuce, basil and wild betel leaves, all wrapped together and eaten with a spicy dipping sauce (usually seafood dipping sauce) : Nile tilapia is usually grilled, but this time my wife decided to deep-fry it.

Rice vermicelli boiled in a pot until fully cooked.

The star of this dish is definitely the flavor-packed dipping sauce. This time, she whipped up a fiery seafood dipping sauce. She usually uses a mortar and pestle to make seafood sauce, but this time she used a blender for convenience. Blend chilies, palm sugar, shallots, and garlic until smooth to form a dipping sauce, then season with lime juice and fish sauce.

It’s finished, Fish Lettuce Wraps (Miang Pla). All wrapped together and eaten with seafood dipping sauce.
