Towards the evening on Wednesday, I had my headphones plugged into my ears while I was attending to the last phase of work for the day. I was listening to a mixtape by M.I. Abaga, and when it got to the track, “Money,” the lyrics hit me so hard. The reality of the lyrics is so loud that whenever anyone listens to the song, one just needs to nod their head in affirmation.
🎼“Money slow to enter”
🎼“Money quick to go”
🎼“Where money dey go?”
At one time or another, everyone has thought and pondered about how money behaves with regards to its inflows and outflows. Money, in its natural speed, as far as I know, has never moved at the same rate when coming in as when going out. The inflow is usually slow, while the outflow is crazily and excessively fast.
I don't know about the developed countries, but in my part of the world, the average person experiences this biased movement of money. One can make $100,000 today, and they'll be happy that money has arrived, but before you know it, 90% of the money has disappeared. Not that there was any careless spending, no; the money was spent carefully, but it still left with a speed higher than the speed at which it entered.
Money is always eager to leave, and I wonder what's pursuing it. It never wants to stay in one place, even in a place where it is well loved. I keep wondering who made money this way. Can the person or the people who created it this way kindly take a pause, have a rethink, and programme it to stay and never be in a rush to leave one's hand?
Ohh!
That's just a ramble of words in my head.
