White lies are very necessary in our day to day life. As long as they're saving moments from crashing down and also saving lives, there's no harm in them. The only part it gets bad is when they're told they're told to save one life and put others in danger...
Two weeks before my birthday, I almost deleted a friend's number from my phone because she had boldly ignored my message about checking in on her. I'm someone who, once in a while, enters a DM of a friend with whom we have bonded very well to say Hi and ask about their welfare, and from there we get to talk a bit about our life happenings. This friend always loves it whenever I come around with such a vibe, and she appreciates it a lot. But that particular day, she was just off. She replied to my first message like I was disturbing her, I made a good joke about her replies, and went on to ask about her well-being, and she didn't reply again. I saw her different times come online and update her status with memes. I messaged again to ask about what's because I felt something was wrong, but she snubbed and didn't bother to reply.
I wanted to delete her number because I was really pissed off and saw myself belittled because it takes me strength and time to enter someone's DM. I left the contact intact and waiting for a day she will come to my DM so that I'll rain fire on her. I was really angry.
On my birthday, she was one of the many who first messaged through the post I made on my status. And alongside, she asked frequently if I was angry that she snubbed me, but I had to tell a white lie that I wasn't angry, but deep down I was still frowning at her, and a little push further could make me delete her number. I just didn't want to spoil everything that day, hence I decided to say I'm okay while I wasn't okay.
If I had said how I felt or how I was feeling, it would have resulted in endless talks and definitely one of us would have had to take in some bitter pills, and it might have resulted in a shaky friendship. But I wasn't ready for all that at all, so I just let things be as if nothing happened, but meanwhile, it's gonna take me years to think of asking about the friend, except for a miracle happens along the line.
This is what white lies can do. They're lies, but they save situations too.
It's just like the current situation of Nigeria, where politicians and government post holders under the current leadership, will come on air and say the opposite of what's happening in Nigeria, praising the administration of their bosses on top, even when they know that the country is messed up already. They just have to lie to save themselves and also the position they're holding.
