Each time Antonio comes across movies or books that portray the existence of ghosts, he always hisses because, according to him, ghosts do not exist.
"If there are ghosts, then why are we not seeing murderers being pursued by ghosts, as we see in typical Nollywood movies?"
This is the question he never gets tired of asking, and no one seems to have answers for him.
One day, he came across a Kdrama that shows how to see a ghost with just a mirror at night. After seeing the movie, his curiosity got to its peak, and he couldn't hold it any longer. Apart from the movie, he has heard so much about the mirror method, so seeing that in a movie really stirred him up.
Determined to bridge the gap between movies and reality, Antonio and his friend, Raph, embarked on a night of experimentation.
Night time came. They wore their pyjamas and got the one-bedroom apartment arranged with all excitement, but at a point, Raph's mind became doubled, and he asked Antonio in a very calm voice,
"Wait, I'm feeling sceptical about this. What if we actually see a ghost?"
"It's simple. If we eventually see a ghost, we are going to sit him down and bombard him with questions about the spirit world." Antonio paused, walked closer to Raph, looked closely to his eyeballs and continued, "Don't you want to know what actually caused the death of your late girlfriend, or don't you know that spirits know everything?"
"Antonio, are you sure you're not possessed already? The way you're taking things is getting me scared." The tempo of Raph's double-mindedness kept increasing and Antonio busted into laughter as soon as he heard that, " hahaha! It's you that's possessed. Go and close the window; let's start."
He walked inside the bedroom and brought a 3feet rectangular mirror wrapped in rough paper, while Raph moved to the window side, slid the windows, and locked them with the hook.
"You really bought this mirror just for this experiment because the last time I checked, there was nothing like a mirror in your house?" Raph surprisingly asked when he saw Antonio bringing out the newly bought mirror.
Antonio was tired of his overreacting friend, so he snubbed the question, proceeded, and stood the mirror vertically, very close to the TV spot.
"So, it's said that everywhere and everyone houses are being ghosted and we are expected to see ghosts in this room via the mirror as soon as everywhere becomes dark. A lot of people have authenticated this process as a sure way of seeing ghosts" Antonio said, and the words sounded like demonic words to Raph. He looked around, and fear gripped his heart. "Please, let's stop this because I'm having a strange feeling."
" Hahahah! So you believe we are going to see ghosts? You're funny" Antonio mocked him with a loud laugh.
As the night deepened, everything was set, and Antonio walked up to the power point of the house and turned off the electricity. Everything became totally dark, and they fixed their eyes on the mirror, expecting the magical appearance of a ghost, but nothing happened.
The mirror failed to yield any supernatural revelation, and despondency began to shadow their excitement.
"Mtchwww! It's all fallacy; ghosts do not exist," Antonio said out of disappointment.
Just as their disappointment threatened to extinguish their hopes, an unexpected gust of fiery wind swept through the room. The air crackled with an eerie energy, unsettling the atmosphere. Trembling with a mixture of fear and anticipation, Antonio and his friend exchanged wide-eyed glances, looking confused.
While the mirror's surface remained unchanged, the inexplicable phenomenon they had just witnessed cast a flicker of doubt on their double-mindedness. Although the anticipated appearance of ghost had not materialised, the mysterious breeze ignited a spark of wonder within them.
Raph was already sent off by fear; he ran behind the back of Antonio, who was standing boldly in the mirror.
"Could that be a gho...?" Raph's question got interrupted by a metal crack in the window.
"Jesus! Someone is at the window." Raph couldn't bear it anymore. He reached out to his phone, flashed the torch light, ran to where the power point was, and turned on the light. As soon as the light was restored, everywhere remained calm, and the scary breeze disappeared.
"Why did you do that?" Antonio yelled angrily at him from the parlour.
"In case you don't love your life, I do. I'm no longer interested; you'll continue this on your own tomorrow," Raph said as he walked to the window to check if it was really opened from the noise he heard.
"Oh boy! The window is open! There was really a ghost."
Antonio didn't believe that; he rushed to the window spot to meet Raph. He checked properly and still didn't believe, "I'm sure you didn't lock it well. I don't believe it's a ghost that opened this
"Haaaa! I locked it with the hook. Well, if you don't believe me, try the process yourself tomorrow because, as for me, I'm out." Raph left him on the spot, went to the couch, sat down and launched into dreamland within some minutes.
Antonio still standing on the spot with many thoughts running through his mind;
"Could this really be the handwork of a ghost? If it is, why didn't it appear in the mirror?"
"Naaah! That must be a coincidence; maybe someone was on the other side of the window. But who could that be? Was that a thief?"
"Even if that was a thief, what about the scary wind that came up at that hour?"
He couldn't just comprehend it; he slowly walked closer to the sofa, fell on it, and slept off.
