English Version

Five years ago, on a bus headed to Guantánamo, I almost got off and went back. Today, that decision to keep going is one of the ones that has shaped my life the most.

The first time I traveled to Guantánamo, it was a very hard trip. It was the first time I had traveled that far on my own, and the craziest part is that I didn't know anyone there—at least not in person.

I decided to make that trip to meet the woman who is now my wife. I only knew her through toDus, a messaging app that was very popular at the time.

When I got on the bus and a few hours into the trip had passed, I felt a little afraid. I wasn't sure whether I should keep going or just get off at the next stop and turn back. That's how most of the trip went, until I finally arrived.

Seeing her in person for the first time felt as if we had known each other our whole lives. We spent amazing moments together, and meeting her family was wonderful. The truth is, I think that if I had gotten off the bus, I would still be regretting it.

Five years have passed since that trip, and I can only thank God for the opportunity to have gone to Guantánamo and, above all, for the courage to make the trip 😅.

Today I have a wonderful wife, with whom I have shared some of the best moments of my life, and it all started with that first visit.
