A few days ago Cooter's tank sprung a leak. Some of the silicone popped, as had happened in the past. We have mended it a few times over the last few years, but when it happened again, we decided to look for a new tank; one that was bigger compared to his size now.
I got him when I was 11, so around now he's coming up to his 20th birthday.
He was the size of the palm of my hand back then, but now he's nearing the size of a small dinner plate.
It's fairly large but isn't actually meant for water. It has only had a few issues in the past and needed some work. For the time it was okay, but the intention was to build him a bigger one. They're fairly expensive, and that was the only real holdback.
Someone was selling it for €100, which is mad, considering a new tank like this goes for about €750.
People were already in the process of buying it, but they both fell through, which meant we were next in line and were able to pick it up.
It weighs a ton, but me and my dad managed it, and with minimal back damage which is always good.
He is very particular about how he likes his tank to look, so within a few days this is going to be trashed and some of the things will be buried under the stones.
It's funny seeing him in a tank that makes him look tiny.
We got so lucky that the other people weren't able to collect the tank. One person expected the seller to deliver it to them. With the price they were selling for, they should have jumped at the chance to collect it rather than expecting the person to give them a ridiculous deal and deliver it.
Their loss is Cooter's gain, because he loves it, and hopefully we won't need to size up again for a good while.
