Moving from place to place, different impressions, scents and thoughts pass through your live every day. Where have I been yesterday? Where will I be tomorrow? It is hard to find the answer to those questions.
Trying to remember all the good moments and the hard times. The struggles you resolved and the lovely people that you met. Trying to hold on to that instant where you took sight of a new place for the first time.
Which moments will become a memory? Which ones will you loose and forget forever?
Aren’t photos a way of trying to capture a moment forever? Painting the picture of an instant, just to remember it later. Holding in your hands a proof of what you have seen or lived.
Then which photos that you take on a trip do you like the most? Which ones do you really go through again, later?
As long as I remember I have always found it very difficult to take photos during travels.
On one hand it is my insufficient photography skill and equipment (so far, because I want to work on it) on the other hand I am usually so deep in the moment, that I completely forget to get the phone or camera out.
Well, sometimes I am also too shy, to impose the camera into the scene. Especially when I can’t do it unseen. And then the moment switches and becomes unnatural, because people are aware of the camera presence. Or I was too slow, and the setup already changed.
I could just let it be then, maybe it is just not my “thing”.
But after any journey long or short, when you think back and remember all the different places, people, memories. It would be lovely to have some photos to look at.
Maybe in those melancholic moments we would like to see the thing again, proofing that it has been a real moment and not just a dream.
In that matter I always regret not to have taken more photos, every single time. And the pattern repeats itself. Will I ever break it?
For a long while I badly fixed the “problem” by taking absolute random shots at random times, just to have an indirect memory of the place. The photo would be pretty much garbage, but through indicators such as set up, clothes a bit of background I would remember where and when I took it and what happened in that place.
This time I want to break this pattern for sure. I just must get into it. I want to.
But what is it then, that I want to take pictures of? Which are the photos I want to look at later?
One thing I do not want for sure is a gazillion photos of things that will just hide in a corner of my laptop later, too boring to be looked at but too sentimental to delete.
Which memories should I try to capture and how?
I guess I will try until I find out. Every day, different ways.
How do you take photos while you travel?
I would love to hear about your relation to photographing while traveling! Any thoughts, answers and tips are very welcome:)
Thank you for stopping by and have a lovely Day!
All photos and words are mine written and taken by me during my last few weeks of traveling.
