A large group of Bitcoin users plan to initiate a user activated soft fork On August 1st. They are fighting for an update to the the Bitcoin code.

To get their point across, they're threatening to reject any Bitcoin blocks that do not signal support for Segregated Witness, which will lead to a solution the current scaling problem.
If you currently hold BTC, after August 1st you'll have both "148-BTC" and "Legacy-BTC". The safest place for your private keys is either on a paper wallet or a hard wallet.
