There is a monstrous element to humans in every given society and I've learned from experience that it's important to recognize this and be conscious of it. Well, it doesn't end with that... We've got to try as much as possible to distance ourselves from any situation that can heighten our chance of coming face to face with that 'monster'.
I've seen so many acts of violence inspired due to insecurity of a certain place and I've read about a lot of crime reports as narrated by victims. With the rate at which things have been going, even the blind can attest to the fact that the crime rate is on the increase and everyone (including beggars on the street) can be victimized by these.
With the way things are going, so many people are beginning to get security conscious. It's about time, you know! And, it's not very obvious that what we do in the name of 'being security conscious' is yielding the right result. However, we've got to do what we can for an extra layer of security and I think that's a really good idea.
When I lived in the Northern part of the country, I knew that the place wasn't the safest of places to be and I couldn't speak their language even if my life depended on it. Due to that, I had to be extra careful of my movement to avoid anything that will jeopardize my safety. For example, I made it a thing to never stay out during ungodly hours.
That's what it means to be precautionary and being that way shows that you are aware of your environment and you are capable of doing what's necessary to keep yourself safe and safeguard your properties. It's also a sign of wisdom, but muppets who are naively hungry for adventure think being precautionary is a sign of cowardice.
Haha! Sorry, folks.
You just don't get it!
911 doesn't exactly work as it does in the movies. Those in my part of the world can attest to that.
Nigeria is not yet in the list of Countries with top security of lives and properties. For the record, we are already in an era where people get hacked to death even when they are in the comfort of their homes and investigations often lead to dead ends.
At the moment, I'm living in the Southeastern part of the country and it kinda feels safe on the surface because I live in the Capital, a fairly sophisticated part of the City. However, the crime rate is still on the high side and it's increasing massively.
As far as I can tell, there is no curfew placed in any area within or around my City. Anyone is free to move around whenever they want and at any time they want. But, you sure are doing that at your peril.
I'm already in the habit of getting my outdoor stuff done early enough so I won't have any reason to stay out too late by nightfall. I also live in a compound where our gateman closes all the gates by 10pm, except when football games are on. It just has to be done because any reasonable measure taken towards crime prevention is always better than the alternative to that.
