Hello Hivers! I hope you are enjoying a relaxing weekend. I'll like to sample some of your opinions on how to write better and possibly improve my writing skills.
Whenever I pick my pen to write or open my word doc app on my mobile, the first thing that comes to mind is - the title of my piece. Some times, when I don't have a title, I don't bother to write. I make sure I actually have a title I could work with before I start. I form my thoughts around the title and put them down in words. It reminds me of my undergraduate and graduate days in school when I had to write my dissertations. We were required to submit an acceptable topic and a proposal for approval before starting the dissertation.
However, there are days where I just have an idea of what I want to write on or a particular topic or subject matter in mind, so I just write and write till I am satisfied I have exhausted my thoughts on it. Later on, I edit my piece and come up with a title.
This latter method makes writing easy for me because I write to my heart's content. In fact, when editing sometimes I end up splitting the piece into two different write-ups and title them differently. All from one idea.
When I employ the 'title first' method, I spend more time thinking, ensuring my piece falls within and does not veer off the title. I feel restricted and end up spending more time on the post. While the 'title later' method is flexible and allows me to write as much as my thoughts flow in that direction.
