There's something wrong with me. I've enjoyed blogging for years. Lately, however, I seem incapable of sitting down to write something. Maybe I've written everything there is to write. Perhaps I'm overthinking things. Maybe I have nothing interesting to write.
Most of my writing over the years has been train of thought. I write what's on my mind. I can't say that I've stopped thinking. Certainly, I have many thoughts.
Something that has changed, however, is the presence of AI. Whereas I could previously sit down and write something with a little editing for clarity, the introduction of AI has made me a bit more ambitious about developing a theme, outlining, and writing a more polished post. I suppose I'm not that sort of writer as instead of helping, AI has made it more complicated to write.
I can't say it's 100% what has changed. But my writing has diminished since I started using AI. I know that for many people, they have "written" more with the help of AI.
The problem with using AI to write, for me, is that I don't much care for passing off AI-written posts as my own. Although I may have directed and shaped a blog post using an LLM, the finished product isn't in my style. It sounds too generic.
Another problem is that it takes time to go through and reword things the way I would have written them. In the end, I'm still writing it myself. It's not saving me time. It takes just as long to fix it as it would have taken to just write it.
Another possible problem with using AI is that I can write a prompt, have a discussion, and then I'm done. That idea doesn't become a post. It just remains a chat history that will eventually roll off in a few months.
It's not all one-sided. What has made my life easier is having AI-generated images. There is no need to go out and photograph something abstract or to look through my image library for something appropriate to avoid posting something copyrighted. Although images aren't necessary, a writer needs at least one image to satisfy the CMS.
For more complex posts, it does help to have AI outline a blog post so that I don't go off on a tangent.
AI also helps with brainstorming an idea. But then this starts to make the post complicated and more of a chore. It starts to be less of a creative outlet and more of a job.
I suppose another contributor to blogging less is that I've been writing to myself. This is in the form of journaling. It's too personal to be putting online. This uses up some of my creative mojo.
I've been attempting to reclaim the same level of posting I used to have. I'll be good for a couple of days, then nothing.
My writing has been less consistent since the price of HIVE started dropping. But that's just coincidence. There was a time when I was more serious about investing in HIVE. I have put in more money than I have taken out. Things have changed in that regard. I'm satisfied that it's a free platform for writing. I use my Hive Power for curation and delegation. It's in my interest to keep Hive alive so I have somewhere to post.
This blog post is more about getting myself back into that head space where I write because I enjoy it. I have made blogging too difficult for myself. That needs to stop. It should be easy and fun.
