Yesterday was my birthday. I celebrated my 52nd solar orbit with my family at Dave & Busters's in McAllen. It is only the second time we have been there. The first time we went was for my daughter's birthday a few years ago.
If you're not familiar with Dave & Buster's, it is a chain of restaurants with the standard American items such as burgers, wings, pasta, and such. In addition, half the property is filled with games, video games and more physical electronic games. In the dining area, they have huge screens up for people to watch sports. Of course, there's a bar.
Wednesdays are typically slow for the McAllen property, for which they have half-priced games.
There are other places we could have gone, such as BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse, which has great food that my family enjoys.
We didn't play too many games at D&B. It came down to the paradox of choice. There are so many games, it's hard to choose where to spend your tokens. And then, at some point, I lost my phone. Fortunately, it was picked up and taken to the lost & found. It's quite annoying to lose your phone. It spoiled the fun a bit.
I had considered leaving my phone in the car. Lately, I have been leaving my phone behind when there's no clear need for it. As I'm getting older, I'm appreciating my remaining time on earth a little more. I am less inclined to spend it on my phone. I prefer to just leave the house with my wallet, if circumstances allow.
In all, my intent for going to Dave & Buster's was just to spend some time with family. It wasn't the food or games in particular that made the decision. I generally do not care to celebrate my birthday, but I know that others like to celebrate birthdays. While being the center of attention is uncomfortable for me, I have taken to getting ahead of it by shaping how my birthdays are celebrated. I figure that if I'm going to be imposed upon, then it should be how I want it.
Yesterday was also a good day in that the crypto market suddenly had a good pump, which was led by Bitcoin. If Bitcoin has a good day, the crypto market as a whole has a good day.
I have been concerned, lately, about the decline in everything I hold. I have threshold balances in USD that kept having to be topped up. For example, let's say that I had $500 worth of BTC in a wallet earlier this year. As the price kept dipping, I would have kept adding more BTC to maintain that $500 value. This approach works when you don't have a ton of money. Once the market turns around, that $500 grows to . . . I don't know, more.
The market rally, therefore, is a good thing in that I no longer have to keep topping up. Only time will tell if this is a kickoff of the crypto bull market, or if it's just a short-term pump. Experience has taught that hard pumps are generally followed by big drops. So, I'm reserving my excitement until we see sustained gains. The market expectation is that we don't start the next bull run until October. On the other hand, these months of low Bitcoin prices have been an excellent opportunity to front run the market.
Overall, I declare that yesterday was a good day. I am fortunate to be in fair health and to have family that cares about me. I think these things are what make life a good experience. More than that is just icing on the birthday cake.
