Happy Thursday Hivers!
Have you ever experienced walking into a store, especially when you know it displays some of your favorite things, and deliberately avoiding looking at that section? You just head straight to the things you actually planned to buy. It’s like you’re telling yourself, “Don’t even look over there, because if you do, you’ll definitely be tempted to buy something!

Well, I used to be like that before. Whenever I visited a store and saw something I liked, even if I hadn't planned to buy it, I would end up buying it anyway. I didn’t have much self-control back then. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve gradually learned to discipline myself when it comes to finances. Compared to how I used to handle money, I can say that I’ve made progress and become more responsible with it.
A few months ago, I went to a store that had so many cute things on display, like tumblers, pens, notebooks, and other items. The only thing I planned to buy was a tumbler for my drinking water because my old one was broken. I prefer bringing my own water whenever I go out rather than buying drinks because I can save money.
Before, whenever I entered a store like that, I would always tell myself, “Don't you dare look around, because you might be tempted to buy something!” But this time, I decided to look around.
Before going to the tumbler section, I checked out the notebooks and pens first. They had so many beautiful notebooks, and they even had my favorite color! But you know what? I was able to control myself. Even though I really wanted to buy a notebook, I told myself, “You still have notebooks at home, and it's not in your budget right now.”
Honestly, I felt happy with myself because I realized that I was finally learning how to control my spending.
After checking out the notebooks and pens, I went straight to the tumbler section. Luckily, they had one in my favorite color, so of course, I grabbed it!
Looking back, I realized that learning to control yourself doesn't mean you can never buy the things you like. It simply means knowing the difference between what you want and what you actually need. I'm happy to see how much I've improved when it comes to managing my money. I'm still learning, but at least now, I know how to stop myself from buying things I don't really need. And honestly, that feels like real progress.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
