Happy Monday Hivers!

I’ve learned so many gardening tips from my mom since we started gardening! Actually, this is the first time my mom and I have worked together in the garden like this. Back when I was still working in a corporate office, we never really had the chance to share moments like these.

Since my mom has been gardening for a long time, she has naturally gained a lot of knowledge and experience over the years. And now, I’m lucky enough to be learning from her and soaking up all the gardening wisdom she has to share. It feels so special to learn from someone who has years of experience, especially when that someone is my own mom.

One of the things my mom taught me was how to properly care for spring onions. According to her, you don’t necessarily have to do the maintenance every day. Even once a week is enough for some of the tasks! The first thing she taught me was to remove the dried and withered leaves because they can interfere with the plants’ growth and multiplication.

Next, she showed me how to hill up the soil around the base of the spring onions to give them more support and encourage healthy growth. She also emphasized the importance of sunlight because spring onions tend to grow and multiply faster when they receive enough sunshine. Of course, regular watering is also essential, preferably every day unless it rains.

After following the gardening tips she taught me and doing the maintenance once a week, except for watering, this is what our spring onions look like now! Have you noticed how healthy they look?

We actually have a neighbor who also grows spring onions, but without hilling up the soil around them. My mom pointed them out to me and said, “Look at their spring onions. See how thin and unhealthy they look? They’re also growing and multiplying slowly.” That made me realize how important proper care is for plants to grow healthy and multiply faster.

This is why, when we're just starting to venture into something new, having a mentor is such a big help. Hehe! Having someone with experience to guide us makes the learning process easier because we get the right advice and learn from what they already know. And in my case, I'm lucky to have my mom as my gardening mentor.

After removing the dried and yellowing leaves, I didn't throw them away because I'll be using them when cooking at home. I love adding spring onions to our dishes because they make food more flavorful and appetizing! It's a simple way to make use of what we grow in our own garden instead of letting anything go to waste.

Little by little, I'm learning that gardening is not just about growing plants. It's also about learning from the people around us, appreciating their wisdom, and making the most of what nature provides.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
