I had a job interview yesterday and I was so excited when I left because I really truly thought that I had a good chance at getting the job. Then 3:00 came around and I got the call back and I did not get the job. I was applying at a small pizza & beer restaurant that has live music, and I was really hopeful to get to work there. Sadly - because of my lack of knowledge for beer they went with another candidate. I understand - I really do, but they acted as if it wasn't a big deal so it was sad to hear that it was the deal breaker. I got my hopes too high, when I should have prepared myself for both possibilities.
That is a bad habit that I have. I get my hopes up when I shouldn't. While it is a good thing to think optimistically - it's important to remember to think pessimistic as well. What I mean by that isn't to always think the worst or the best but to try to be both. It is important to not be too optimistic or too pessimistic because being able to play both sides helps you think logically. While I can admit I still haven't learned how to play both sides myself; I do try. Which is something we all should do - try.
The reason I am saying all this is because yesterday I thought too optimistically and got myself hurt. Which really sucks. I know now and after each time I do it - that I should have thought logically. So I am writing this in hopes that you can learn from my mistakes. My mistake being that I got hurt by not protecting myself. Which is something we all learn to do and must continue to do our whole lives.
Although I didn't get the job I am hopeful that I will get one soon. I am ready for the possibility of not getting another one but I am more excited for the possibility of actually getting one. Even though I may get hurt it makes it worth it because getting a job finally will be so rewarding. Especially when it is something I enjoy doing. I guess in the grand scheme of things I am just trying to say: failure is a factor of life, but learning to pick yourself up and try again is too.
I am no stranger to failure which is why I am no stranger to being disappointed either, but with each failure I learn to protect myself more and I learn to stand tall for whatever lies next. With each success story there are tons of failure, so you must learn to deal with failure in order to be a success. Kinda ironic; yes; but true. There is a lyric from a song that I love and it goes like, "It's how much you get back up from being knocked down that shows how much you got in you. " So get back up - as I am. Don't let failure consume you no matter how many times you get knocked down. Because the only true failure is giving up on yourself. Corny maybe, but so damn true. If you don't believe in yourself, why should others?
Keep growing and glowing with each failure, I know I am.
